The Rangers Just Have The Flyers Number This Season
The Philadelphia Flyers this season just are not able to solve the problem of beating the New York Rangers. The Rangers just seem to find ways to win and know that they are going to win against the Flyers this season. The Rangers' after Sunday's win against the Flyers at Madison Square Garden kept their mastery of the Flyers this season going. The Rangers are 4-0 this season against the Flyers.
The Flyers this weekend has a very good opportunity of jumping over the New York Rangers for the lead in the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference Standings. The Flyers are Saturday got off to a terrrible start at home to the New Jersey Devils, getting down 6-0 before coming alive a little too late and lost 6-4. The Flyers again on Sunday got off to a bad first period start in route to a 5-2 lose to the Rangers.
The Rangers in Sunday's game got off to a very quick start against the Flyers, just 1:04 into the game by a goal by Artim Anisimov which put the Rangers up 1-0. The Flyers played a very bad first period and did not get their first shot on the Rangers goalie Hendrik Lundqvist until 9 minutes, 43 seconds into the game. There is starting to be concern in the Flyers locker room if the team getting off to bad starts in games.
Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds scored for the Flyers. Scoring for the New York Rangers were Marian Gaborik, Michael Del Zotto, Brandon Dubinsky, and Ruslan Fedotenko all scored for the Eastern Conference-leading New York Rangers.
The New York Rangers goalie, who is probably one of the top goalies in the league, Hendrik Lundqvist made 21 saves to stymie the Flyers and showed the Philadelphia Flyers what their team is lacking and that is a top goalie. Lundqvist's career- best shutout streak ended at 182 minutes, 37 seconds when the Flyers Schenn scored in the second period. Lundqvist improved his season record to 24-14-4. The fans at Madison Square Garden on Sunday chanted to the Flyers, "You can't beat us", at the end of the game.
Anisimov opened the scoring for the New York Rangers, 1:04 of the first period. He also assisted on Gaborik's second-period goal and Del Zotto's go-ahead goat at 1:33 of the third period, which came 36 seconds after the Flyers Wayne Simmonds tied the game at 2-2. Dubinsky scored the insurance goal for the Rangers at 12:55 of the final period and Fedotenko added an empty net goal at 18:44 of the third period.
The Flyers were without Danny Briere and James Van Riemsdyk because of concussions. The Flyers problem right now is so obvious and it is their goaltending situation. No matter who is in net for this team this season they just can not get the consistent play in which they will need to be a true serious contender for the Stanley Cup. The biggest difference between the Flyers and Rangers right now is the goaltending. Put Hendrik Lundqvist in a Flyers uniform and they are the top team to beat for the cup. This problem looks like it could be the Flyers downfall this season. If they do not get good goaltending in the playoffs then this could be a short playoff season for the Flyers, not what Flyers fans want to hear.
