The 2011-2012 Philadelphia Flyers just do not like first periods in hockey games this season and just never seem to be ready. He just seem to like to get off to slow starts and get behind in games this year. They seem to have done this all season long and just like to storm back in games and take victory from the jaws of defeat. The Flyers again did it Wednesday night in Game One of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins stormed out to a quick lead in the first period and totally got the home crowd in Pittsburgh behind them. The Flyers just looked bad and just looked like they have all season long in first periods, not being ready to play. The Penguins got out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and totally took the play to Philadelphia. The Flyers did what they have done for most of the season, they came back to tie the game and than in overtime the Flyers beat the Penguins in Game One, 4-3 and jump out to a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Pittsburgh crowed was in total shock.
Danny Briere and Brayden Schenn helped ignite the Flyers great comeback in this game by helping the Flyers get out of the early 3-0 hole they created for themselves in the first period. The Flyers tied the game in the third period at 3-3. In the overtime period Jakub Voracek scored the game winner 2:23 into the first overtime period and the Flyers had made the complete unbelieveable comeback in this game.
Danny Briere scored a very huge goal for the Flyers in the second period which got the Flyers on the board and woke them up. They had been so very outplayed in the first period and the Penguins showed they had their legs and were very charged up coming out of the locker room to start Game One. The goal by Briere in the second period changed everything. It completely woke up the Flyers and the momentum started turning their way.
In the third period Danny Briere again scored a goal for the Flyers and cut the Penguins lead to 3-2 and the Flyers were back in the game and it was swinging their way. Danny Briere who was cleared earlier in the day to play by the Flyers has been a huge playoff performer for the Philadelphia Flyers and on Wednesday night he lived up to it. He showed up and he showed everyone including the Penguins why he needs to be considered a force and a player to watch. It is the second season and Briere just seems to thrive in the playoffs. He puts it into another gear.
The Philadelphia Flyers showed the Pittsburgh Penguins on this night that in the NHL playoffs it is a 60 minute game and sometimes sudden death overtime. The Penguins came out and just played a 20 minute game and that is not going to win in the playoffs and that was proven in this game. The Penguins came out in the first period and just skated circles around the Flyers but the Flyers with held the storm even though it was barely they with held it and well came back and won a game they well in the first period they should of lost. The team again showed a lot of hurt and a team that just will never let up or say die. The Flyers look now to take control of the series if they can win Game 2 but in Game 1 the Flyers took this one away from the Penguins.
