The Flyers went into Toronto Thursday night looking to build some momentum in the handful of games remaining in the regular season. The Flyers were without their hot goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov and his replacement for the game was Sergei Bobrovsky. It did not matter who was in goal this night because the Flyers came out and took it right to the Maple Leafs in the opening period and coasted to an easy victory. The Flyers in dominating fashion went on to a 7-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Philadelphia Flyers had a huge night from their second scoring line in this game. The line of Danny Briere, Wayne Simmonds, and Brayden Schenn produced nine points on the night at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The Flyers scored and scored a lot and kept the Toronto crowd quite early and throughout the game.
The Flyers with the win on Thursday night see home-ice advantage within their sights in the first round of the upcoming Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Pittsburgh Penguins have suffered back-to-back losses and the Philadelphia Flyers are within reach of the Penguins for fourth place in the Eastern Conference which would mean home ice advantage against most likely the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round.
With five games left in the regular season for both the Flyers and the Penguins, the Flyers just trail the Pittsburgh Penguins by two points for that fourth spot in the conference. Both teams will also face each other two more times in the regular season. These two games will be huge because it will decide who will most likely have that home ice advantage against the other in the opening round of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This should be very interesting and these two teams already know each other very well and they will get to know each other even more in the first round.
Schenn opened the scoring for the Flyers with two goals in the first period against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Matt Read also reclaimed the NHL's Rookie scoring lead with his 23rd goal of the season.
The Flyers look to get consistent play in the remaining five games. It is going to be very important that the team go into the second season with some momentum and confidence. They also look to get home ice against the Penguins in the first round. Ilya Bryzgalov needs to give the team the same goaltending play he has during March. If he does the Flyers will be a very tough opponent and they will advance deep into the playoffs. Look out for the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2012 playoffs because they could surprise people and go a very long way in the playoffs. This team's goal is the Stanley Cup. Let's see where this ride will take Flyers fans this year.
