The Temple Owls Men's Basketball team is making a statement that they are the number one team in the Philadelphia Big Five. Head Basketball Coach Fran Dunphy after Saturday's game has got to be happy with another victory over another ACC team. Earlier in the seaon the Owl's beat Duke at the Wells Fargo Center. Saturday the Temple Owls hosted another ACC team, the Maryland Terrapins. Temple is building their resume for the March Madness Tournament that is over a month away.
The Temple Owls defeated the Maryland Terrapins early Saturday afternoon 73-60 in front of a sold out crowd at the Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. The Owls improved their overall record to 13-5 and their A10 league record to 2-2.
Fran Dunphy, the former head man at the University of Pennsylvania and a Philadelphia Big 5 legend is making his mark on the Temple basketball program. After taking over from another legend John Chaney, Dunphy has put his finger prints on the program and the team is playing good defensive basketball under Dunphy.
Temple played excellent defense and the ball movement on the offensive end helped the Owls to a big second half in which they outscored Maryland by ten points. The nation's fifth leading scorer Maryland's Terrell Stoglin did get his 20 points but overall the Temple team played very good defense.
Temple's next game is a non conference game vs Charlotte in Charlotte.
